T4 W5 Reflection

Hi, this week we had quite a lot to do so this reflection should be a little bit bigger than usual.

First of all I have done some more work on my passion project although it will take quite a while to finish.

For Maths this week we had to choose a subject about maths (I did square root) and do a DLO on it, add 2 tasks to do referring to it and put in a link to a video for a guide, I will add a link to my DLO since the screenshot is very blurry Linkerino

For writing we had to have finished our Titanic work, here is mine and Byron's Linkerino

And that pretty much concludes what we did this week, I hope you enjoyed.

T4 W4 Reflection

This week we had Madeline come in to let us attempt to make our own animation on google slides, mine was a complete fail so I wont link it. Other than that the week has been pretty slow, we have been working on our Titanic project where we have to do something about the Titanic, there are 8 options but me Byron and Riley chose to kind of reenact a small bit about the Titanic through making a mini movie.

Other than that we have been doing work on our passion project, I have made some progress but it will take ages to finish.

T4 W3 Reflection

This week due to a serious migraine I only attended for Thursday and Friday so I wont have as much as everyone else but I will try.

On Thursday we did testing, we had completed the Maths and a writing test.

That was really it for Thursday as it was a slow day. On Friday we had assembly as usual and after that we went up to room 9 for a little bit.

I am kind of sad that I could not go to school for Monday - Wednesday but eh.

Tuesday 18 October 2016

What happens while we sleep

In writing today we have been reading and learning about what happens when we go to sleep. Miss Power shared 3 links to different information for us to read. We discussed some of the key ideas and then started writing an explanation, Here is what I have so far.

Why you need to sleep... Sometimes… Most of the time… Ok you need to sleep, unless it's the school holidays and you do an all nighter.

What happens when you sleepwalk

Sleepwalking happens  most of the time to roughly 15% of all people during the first few hours of sleep in the stage called slow wave or deep sleep. There are different types of sleepwalkers though, some just stand up and some walk around. Something kind of weird that happens is that although your eyes are open you cannot see the same as normal and your unconscious sleepwalking body will normally think they are in the toilet going pee where in reality you are in the kitchen trying to pee in the freezer…

T4 Week 1 reflection

For the first week of the last term I was only here for Thursday and Friday so there wont be much on here.

For maths we have been learning how to find patterns and use them to our advantage. We had to find a rule for a pattern.

In writing we have written about how to be a good friend. I wasn't able to do this as I was away but I did a small amount.

Lastly we have started making ideas with a group to decide what we will do to leave our mark on Grey Main School

Term 3 Week 9 Reflection

This week for writing we started a explanation on a water cycle made up of four different parts we had to make a paragraph explaining them all.

Also around week 5 we started our topic sentences which is like the water topic but we get to choose, I chose the life of bees.

W.A.L.T:To learn to write an explanation.
Topic Sentences for our Paragraphs

A Bee is a winged insect that has a stinger usable to gather pollen or sting people if threatened, they  use the pollen to  create honey. You have most likely seen honey in grocery stores, the honey they make is also used to feed their workers, However Queen Bees and bees that are in line to be Queen are fed royal honey, containing finer honey with more pollen.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bees have a ranking system and each has a job to complete.
On the top of the ranking system proudly stands the Queen Bee, The Queen Bee has only 2 jobs. To produce eggs which grow up to be Bees and to produce chemical scents to improve the unity of all the Bees. Over the course of her life she only leaves the hive once in order to mate. Although she can normally live up to 4 years, Beekeepers change the queen bee every Autumn to ensure maximum productivity as when they get older they are no longer able to muster as much eggs per day. As a Queen she requires around the clock care and service, some of her worker bees act as royal servants following her around 24/7 because she cannot care for herself, she needs her workers to groom her, feed her and have the drone bees to fertilize her so she can make eggs. Worker bees have to gather pollen, produce honey and create hives
Bees preferred locations to create beehives
Worker bees make hives to store honey and feed themselves throughout winter which is when they can't go outside to look for food. Bee hives are made of six-sided tubes, which are the shapes for optimal honey production because they require less wax to make and can hold more honey. Some hives develop broods which become dark in color over time because of cocoon tracks and travel stains. Other honey bee hives remain light in color. They normally make their hives in rock crevices, hollow trees and other areas that scout bees believe are appropriate for their colony. A beehive is an enclosed structure in which some honey bee species of the subgenus Apis live and raise their young. Natural beehives are naturally occurring structures occupied by honeybee colonies, such as hollowed-out trees, while domesticated honeybees live in man-made beehives, often in an apiary. These man-made structures are typically referred to as beehives. Several species of Apis live in hives, but only the western honey bee and the eastern honeybee are domesticated by humans. A natural beehive is comparable to a bird's nest built with a purpose to protect the dweller.
Bees have a busy daily life.

Also for maths we have been doing basics facts, maintenance questions and then 10 questions that are shared with us in a doc.

Lastly on thursday we had someone from ST johns come to us and explain to us about cpr and bandaging, it was fun but it hurt my arms trying to do cpr on the doll thing manican guy thing.

Term 2 W8 Reflection

This week for poem anthology I finished off my personification, here it is

When the midnight strikes
The things on the bed
Get up and walk around
They come in different types

This one has stripes
They keep you warm, safe and sound.
As they sing you to sleep
You go into it deep

But as you close your eyes
They open theirs
And run around with joy
Screaming and jumping happily
As the bear plays around with toys

The pillows are drinking tea
The Sheets are drinking some beer
All happy and joyful
So much fun it brings a tear

But as the rooster screams its call
And the humans get their clothes
They must go back to hiding
And the men still wonder
Where all the darn beer went.

I also did my color poem

Green looks like the long thin grass on a hot summers day.
Green sounds like the wind, rushing through the air.
Green smells like a big bail of hay  ready for the cows to eat.
Green tastes like lime bubblegum fresh from the candy factory.
Green is the feeling of disgust.

Black looks like the cold dark afterlife you face after a beautiful life.
Black sounds like the owls in the night sky hooting.
Black tastes like dark licorice from the warehouse.
Black is the feeling of despair.

And here are some maths tasks I did

Writing Moments

WALT:Use Descriptive language
We had to choose an experience that we enjoyed and remembered really well. I chose to write about learning to do a back flip on camp.

Writing Moments

Doing a back flip at Curious Cove
I got off the boat after a long day of fishing and exploring, Zachary and I went straight to the cabin. I got changed into some clean clothes and went down to the trampolines, I had been practicing back flips from yesterday.

Other people were already on so I waited for my turn, Once it was mine Zachary and Reid were encouraging me to land one.  I had been trying for a while but I hadn’t been able to yet but I had hope for today.

I got my bounce and leaned backwards, tucked my legs and hoped, I landed on my knees. Zachary and Reid came over and congratulated me saying I did a back flip, but I would not admit it until I landed it on my feet.

I went and had a drink, my mouth was dry and I was nervous, I splashed the cold water across my sweating face, I felt a sense of relief. I walked back down to the trampoline, Zachary was saving the trampoline for me so I could go back on immediately and try again. I got my bounce and leaned forward first, I rebounded off the side of the rectangular trampoline dug into the ground and leaned back. …

I… I Landed it! I was extremely happy and felt a massive weight lift off my shoulders, I landed a back flip! Zachary and Reid once again rushed at me, bombarding me with compliments.

Curios Cove Descriptive Writing

W.A.L.T:Write a piece of descriptive writing.

Success Criteria

Curious Cove Camp:Mt Kahikatea

Curious Cove Camp:Mt Kahikatea

It was a long and tiring walk up and down the Mountain, I will be sharing my experience with you.

As we prepared our bodies for a long and hard day of walking I already felt sweat dripping from my forehead, Miss Power had already called us to a decking to make sure we all had our parents with us.

It was a warm and dry day, but the fallen leaves made it tricky to climb,
The mountain was 640m above sea level but it still took a good 2 hours or so to complete the walk… and that was only to the top.

As we commenced the walk I heard the soft buzzing of the wasps surrounding me and the rest of the class. We began climbing, steeper and steeper and steeper.

It was exhausting, but we got further 100m,  200m,  300m,  400m,  500m,  600m! This was over an hour later… in between that time was just us moaning about how we were tired. Finally we reach the top! Oh it's so nice to feel the sweet sensation of flat ground. We had our break,  Miss Power sent people down to the viewing point 4 by 4 then it started all over again. We had to go down.
